The Glucose Revolution Diet

The Glucose Revolution diet is a low-fat, high carbohydrate diet (in the of form of slow-release carbohydrate and whole grains) and includes lots of green vegetables and fruit, and some lean meat and fish. Sugar is not necessarity forbidden. Sucrose (oridinary white sugar) has a GI of 67 while glucose (often found in sweets and candies) has a GI of 100. Sucrose is of only moderate GI Cornflakes have a GI of 84!

This article includes recommendations of how much carbohydrate should be consumed by people of different sizes and lifestyles.

The Western diet contains far too much food that is high in saturated fat and quick-release carbohydrate. Potatoes, white bread and some breakfast cereals, common elements in the diet of most Westerners, all have high GIs.

Relatively high GI foods include: those mentioned above as well as, bran flakes, brown bread (only wholegrain stoneground has a low GI), dates, french fries, rice cakes, waffles.

Relatively low GI foods include: apple juice, most fruits, oatmeal, pasta, muesli, butter beans, basmati rice, rye bread, yoghurt.
